BNP and far-right local election results 2007The BNP has stood a record 878 candidates in the May elections. This figure is made up of:
So far it has been an excellent night for anti-fascists as voters turned out to choose HOPE over hate. The BNP has so far only won three council seats (two in North West Leicestershire and one in Charnwood) but it has also lost two, in Broxbourne and South Holland. The BNP has failed to take any seats in Sandwell, Dudley, Birmingham, Thurrock, Oldham, Blackburn and Pendle. Its vote has also gone down, in some places quite considerably. It is too early to celebrate just yet. Counting is taking place this morning across West Yorkshire, Burnley, Stoke-on-Trent, Broxtowe and parts of Essex – all areas where the BNP had hoped to make gains.
