Luton reject the EDL provocation

I'm really pleased to report that it seems that today has passed off peacefully. The people of Luton have rejected the provocation of the EDL.
One of the main reasons for this was the great work done in the Muslim community to keep their youth off the streets. Hundreds of stewards and dozens of mediation teams were out to reduce tensions and refute the rumours that were circulating. Community elders stood hand in hand to calm youngsters down and encourage people not to rise to the EDL's bait.
Across the town, faith leaders from the Christian churches in Luton were on the ground to stand shoulder to shoulder with the Muslim community.

WELL DONE LUTON. You stood up to the thugs and showed the world that these morons DO NOT have the support of the people.

Thank goodness that's over. I'm proud of Luton - I grew up there surrounded by multiculturality and it's a relief to see that the community can pull together when it needs to. Luton should be proof that people of different religions and cultures can get on, not a base for racism! Everyone I know in Luton has dreaded this riot and gone out of their way to show their lack of support, and I'm glad that was reflected today.

well done to everyone in luton for not falling foul of the EDL trap. the majority in luton live side by side peacefully, people of all faiths and cultures work together everyday in our town in schools, community centres and offices, proving David Cameron and Stephen lennon and his fascist yobs wrong. It's very unfortunate however that David Cameron has undone some of the good work that the community in luton does on a daily basis. He has bowed down to fascist thugs.

History seems to be repeating itself with Cameron, as early into her premiership, and with a seriously depleted National Front, Margaret Thatcher said that Anglo Saxon identity was 'under threat'. So, is the Prime Minister trying to reach out to racists and those of us who have no wish to live in a respectful and plural Britain now, i.e BNP/EDL supporters? Because that is taking not ten, but ten thousand steps back and I am so glad HnH have worked so hard to turn ordinary people in Luton against what the far right and Islamic extremists want to ignite there.

I'm so proud to be a Luton resident! There's no place for "Tommy Robinson" and his EDL thugs here. The town is multi-racial, multi-cultural and PROUD OF IT! People have indeed worked hard to make sure the march would pass off peacefully, but I really believe the residents of Luton value what we have too much to allow any EDl/BNP march to destroy it.
