BNP fail to impress in Wrexham

If there was one council in which the BNP hoped to make a breakthrough in Wales it was Wrexham. However, like so many others across Britain, the BNP left empty-handed.
The BNP averaged just 11.4% of the vote in the seven wards contested, three of which they believed they had a serious chance of winning.
I think it's time for a round-up...

I was a little bit worried about this one as I used to live in Wrexham and I am well aware of the political climate there. Many wards here were straight two-way fights between Labour and the BNP, with other parties such as the Conservatives/LibDems nowhere to be seen. The good thing was that the people of Queens Park, scene of riots in 2003, have since then constantly rejected fascists from outside the town spreading their poisonous racist lies so much so that their (the BNP's) Wrexham campaign has concentrated on the hill villages to the south and west of the town, along with Marchwiel and Holt to the east. Wrexham is in line for some very special things in terms of quality of life in the town over the next year. Glad the BNP won't be spoiling it all then.

Yes, good to see the BNP humiliated in Wales. It helps when there is a credible progressive alternative to the main London parties...

Yeah, whatever happened to Forward Wales/Cymru Ymlaen, John Marek's true-left party? They won Johnstown when I was up there.
