Here's another American giving his view on the election:

None shall sleep........

The beer is on ice; the first one to be cracked open as the first poll closes at the top of the hour.

None dare actually start celebrating though. Like an England team leading in a penalty shootout with Nessun Dorma echoing in the background ; you know the odds are heavily in your favour, but you also know that something, ANYTHING, can and will go wrong!

As reports come in from around the nation, how reassuring it is to be talking almost exclusively about red states. It increasingly seems a case of damage limitation for the Republicans. Exhale, but......

Another stolen election? There! I said it!! It's what we are all thinking.

Tomorrow morning brings not only a historic new era for the nation as a whole, but on a micro political level it brings new eras for both Democratic and Republican parties.The GOP has to face the reality that it has become a regional party, unable to compete in vast swathes of the nation. Areas where it once had the lock and key on the electorate. The Democrats have a fantastic opportunity; especially if the House aligns as hoped, to build a dynastic hold on Washington. An opportunity it dare not waste, for it's sake and more importantly ours.

Ironically, the best hope the GOP may have in 2012 is that the Democrats may still be undoing the economic mess the Republicans left them!

Today of all days, it seems appropriate to recite the following quote that you'll all know well " We have nothing to fear, but fear itself!"...well, that AND the vote counting in Miami-Dade!
