NPD flop but still rake in the cash

The neo-nazi NPD polled badly in Sunday’s Federal elections in Germany and yet it will receive more than €1 million a year in state funding for its election campaigns. The BNP’s sister organisation polled just 1.5% of the vote, down from 1.6% last time. While its vote was higher in some regions in eastern Germany it certainly hasn’t been able to gain from the economic crisis.

With increasing talk of state funding of political parties over here I hope we have a higher threshold than Germany does. It seems crazy for a nazi party to receive so much public money for such a small share of the vote.
