Yesterday saw a private funeral for Graham Goddard, the joint Deputy General Secretary of Unite the Union. He died on 19 October, at the age of 51, after losing his battle against cancer.

Graham was a personal friend and a strong supporter of the HOPE not hate campaign, both in his native South Yorkshire but also nationally within the union. He saw the fight against racism and fascism as part and parcel of his wider commitment to improving the lives of working people. Only a few days before his death he managed to ring Paul Meszaros, from HOPE not hate Yorkshire, to enquire about the Barnsley by-election.

He will be badly missed by everyone who knew him and my condolences go out, on behalf of Searchlight and the HOPE not hate campaign, to Siobhan and their son Ted.
