The 2,000 strong crowd of boneheads that gathered in Toul last weekend went unnoticed by the police and the local media. This was the second time since 2009 that the 16,000 inhabitant-city, has played host to a festival organized by the nazi Hammerskin Nation. The first occasion, in June 2009, was in the same area and went ahead with the same lack of interest from the authorities.
On 3 November 2012, an in-depth report of the latest concert was published by the German daily Frankfurter Rundschau which said that the overwhelming majority of those in attendance came from over the German border, Saarbrucken being only 100 km away and Belgium even closer. Skinheads from those countries and also from Austria, France and Switzerland also flooded into the city on the day.
Among the groups that played during the gig were the infamous German fascist band Stürmwehr, whose lyrics target Jews and ethnic minorities with the "lyrics" like "We kick you out, we burn you, we get rid of this rats’ nest".
The openly nazi Wolfsfront played their "Death to ZOG" song” while The Greek band Der Stürmer, whose name is a reference to Julius Streicher’s viciously antisemitic newspaper, was also on the bill. This outfit is affiliated to the nazi Golden Dawn party. Also on stage was a Hungarian group, Vérszerződés ("Blood oath") that is notorious for having played at a tribute to the Nazi Waffen SS commando leader, Otto Skorzeny.
Toul is home to the core membership of the French Autonome Nationalists. A shop selling skinhead stuff opened in the city centre in February 2012.
In 2011 two local boneheads were detained after they desecrated the local mosque. Also in 2011, another Hammerskin gig took place in a small town, Rohrbach-lès-Bitche, also located in the Lorraine region, close to the German border.
