And then there were six

Another Burnley BNP councillor has resigned. Maureen Stowe, councillor for Brunshaw ward, has left the BNP. She handed in her resignation today after talks with the Council Leader. She will remain on the council as an Independent.

She was elected to the council in May, taking the Brunshaw seat from Labour.

Stowe's resignation follows the loss of Luke Smith, who resigned in disgrace his councillor seat in August. Smith, who has a conviction for disorder after a football match, had smashed a beer bottle into the face of a fellow BNP member.

The loss of yet another councillor is yet another bitter blow for Burnley BNP. Since last May, when the party took seven new seats, the BNP has lost two by-elections in wards they already had councillors and had seen its organiser and deputy organiser resign after a feud with Nick Griffin.
