BNP Eastern Region candidates mystery

Some three weeks after election nominations closed, the BNP's website still does not list the right BNP candidates for the Eastern Region European constituency.

Richard Green still appears at number 2 on the list and Nick Geri, the BNP councillor for Thurrock, Essex, is shown at number 5.

Neither of them is on the nomination list handed to the returning officer.

Green deselected himself, as he put it, at the very last moment after falling out with the BNP leadership. And reading between the lines of recent BNP postings on the party's website leaves one with the impression that Geri, who remains a council candidate defending his recently won seat, may also not exactly be flavour of the month.

Green was replaced by Mrs Patricia Richardson, the Jewish collaborator, whose position as governor of a Redbridge school has caused controversy locally. In Geri's place is Peter Turpin, who left the police service several years ago under a cloud. Both are also candidates for Epping Forest District Council.

Although Geri is one of the BNP's few councillors nationally, he is now being sidelined on the BNP website, in favour of Richardson. The offhand way in which he was being treated became so obvious that the BNP had to make a half-hearted attempted to correct the balance on bank holiday Monday with a story about the BNP's council candidates in four towns in Essex, which referred to his victory last autumn.

Perhaps the BNP leadership thinks Geri's Italian origins might be a problem with the party's more racist members. If so, it seems strange that it should promote a woman who does not hide her Jewishness.

The BNP website lists all the party's European election and London Assembly candidates with space for a photograph and short profile. Eight days before polling day, several candidates are still lacking a profile. Is this just BNP inefficiency or is the party trying to hide some uncomfortable truths?
