HOPE not hate campaign takes off in Walsall

Searchlight / HOPE not hate by Matthew Collins | Saturday, 25 April 2009

HOPE not hate kicked off in the Midlands with two leafleting sessions in Walsall either side of an excellent meal, with over 12,000 leaflets delivered today. Local activists will deliver a further 8,000 during the rest of the week.

Two MPs and a good cross section of local faith groups and activists came together to deliver the new leaflet. Many said they had been spurred on by the recent language and actions of the BNP.

Michael Cashman, an MEP, delivered the first leaflet of the day and over lunch gave a blistering assessment of the BNP's Nazi friends in the European Parliament. He added, "I'm not here for Labour Party, I'm not here for me. I'm actually here because like every decent person should be, I am disgusted by the BNP.

"Searchlight and HOPE not hate lead the way. There is no other campaign like this anywhere that can unite so many people with one common purpose; that is and it must be, to defeat fascism."
