Boxing supremo Frank Maloney, UKIP's candidate in Barking, has been threatened by the BNP which is worried he'll topple their leader, Nick Griffin, in the general election.

"People say to me the world of boxing is full of underhand and deceitful tricks but I beg to differ, these people should take a look at the world of politics. I believe in fair play, honesty and democracy unlike my rivals the BNP...these words do not apply to them.

Mr Maloney issued the following statement today:

"A letter has been passed to me from Nigel Farage (UKIP's candidate for Buckingham) which he received from the BNP with threatening and blackmailing undertones insinuating that if I stand in Barking they would stand a Mr Barnbrook in Buckingham against Mr Farage.

"The letter, which was not very well written and undated, was from the proposed candidate and former policeman Mr Barnbrook, who has used strong incriminating threats in trying to force UKIP to withdraw me from Barking.

"This shows that the BNP do not believe in the fair democratic voting system in place in our country and are not prepared to leave voting to the British public. They would rather use blackmail and bully boy tactics to try and gain seats in parliament.

"On receiving this letter, Nigel Farage picked up the phone to inform me that the BNP were trying to force UKIP not to stand a candidate Barking - but anyone could tell by the tone of the letter it was more of a threat than anything else.

"UKIP will never be bullied or blackmailed into standing down candidates, they believe in the fair democratic system of the British constitution.

"It is only fair that the people who take time out of their day to travel to the polling stations make that choice, not the BNP or Mr Barnbrook and his so called suggestive letters...let the people have their say."
