BNP romance with Euro-fascists continues

The BNP’s romantic fascination with European nationalists continues. Martyn Findley, one of the two BNP councillors elected to Nuneaton and Bedworth council in May 2008, hasdecided to promote European nationalist parties on his personal blog.

Findley has decided to start his list with the Bulgarian ultra-nationalist party Ataka, which is led by Volen Siderov.

In 2008 Siderov met with Jean Marie Le Pen and members from Austria’s Freedom Party and the Flemish Vlaams Belang party.

Findley writes on his blog:

“Their twenty principles page will read well with Nationalists everywhere containing as it does sound common sense ideas. I have checked out the ‘news’ and ‘gallery’ pages and there is not an extremist in sight. They do seem even keener than most to keep Turkey out of the European Union but with their historical differences this is hardly a surprising position.”

Perhaps Findley, who is also a fan of the Italian extremist Roberto Fiore on his Facebook page, isn’t aware that Ataka advocate an isolationist foreign policy, like most of Europe’s fascist network, that would withdraw Bulgaria from its international responsibilities. It supports racial hygiene policies which advocate for a “monoethnic Bulgaria”. A protectionist and regressive economic policy that would further harm the Bulgarian economy. It has also been accused of whipping up ethnic tensions amongst Turkish and Roma minorities.

In March 2007 the European Federation of Journalists called on the Bulgarian government to protect journalists after they received intimidating threats made by Siderov and supporters of Ataka party.

In 2008 Ataka’s Dimitar Stoyanov MEP created controversy when he refused to retract comments in which he railed against “…powerful Jews, with a lot of money, who are paying the media to form the social awareness of people. They are also playing with economic crises in countries like Bulgaria and getting rich.”
