Stoke Day of Action

The HOPE not hate team have had an exciting weekend venturing north to help out the campaign in Stoke-on-Trent and the Amber Valley. Leaving early on Friday morning to catch the minibus up to Stoke we arrived before lunchtime, luckily before the one CD we had was repeated for the fourth time. We set to delivering the targeted newspaper in the wards where the BNP is strong and, after a short break for lunch, continued late into the evening.
After hearing so much about the campaign in Stoke, it was good to be able see for ourselves how they are tackling the problems they are facing. The sun shone all day and it was lovely to be outside to make the most of the weather.
In the evening we were treated to a delicious curry with all the volunteers and the Stoke Labour party. It was great to meet Rob Flello and Tristram Hunt and other activists who are working so hard to ensure that the BNP don't win here.
The sunny weather continued into Saturday when we completed our trip by joining up with the Day of Action taking place in Amber Valley. We went out with local activists to deliver another few thousand newspapers before heading back to London.
In total we got out over 12,000 newspapers in the two days, which will hopefully make a big difference in the coming election. This weekend also finished a busy week for the interns during which we have travelled to five different areas around the country to help deliver the newspapers. In every area we have met plenty of positive people who are delighted to see us actively campaigning against the BNP and it's great to see the number of volunteers who are dedicating hours to the campaign all around the country.
