A recent suggestion on the social networking site Facebook that Boston's pubs are banning England football shirts during this summer's World Cup has been refuted by Lincolnshire Police's Licensing Department.

After the comments on the site were brought to the attention of PC Andy Heath, the Licensing Officer for Boston, enquiries were made among the town's licensees.

"Of the 16 licensed premises in the town centre, 15 have no objection to patrons wearing England shirts", said PC Heath. "Just one premises is intending to ban all football shirts and this decision has been made to reduce the risk of confrontation between rival supporters."

PC Heath added, "Boston's licensees are hoping for a peaceful and uneventful World Cup and are working in partnership with Lincolnshire Police to ensure all fans can enjoy football without it being overshadowed by conflict or violence".
