Griffin (left) and Butler: we oppose both

The pro-Griffin camp in the British National Party leadership contest accuses Searchlight of supporting Griffin’s rival, Eddy Butler, in an attempt to taint Butler (in BNP eyes) with guilt by association.

Let’s set the record straight. We support neither. We oppose the BNP as a whole. We are enjoying watching the racist party tearing itself apart and in so doing displaying its nastiest characteristics.

The reason we have quoted many of Butler’s accusations is that they confirm the conclusions we reached months ago following our own investigations into the BNP, especially its dodgy financial dealings and the way in which the convicted criminal Jim Dowson has wrested control of the party under the noses of its members.

Searchlight is happy to speak to anyone on either side if they have anything of interest to tell us. Of course we won’t reveal who has contacted us, or who has not.

One of the attack blogs promoted by the avid Griffin supporter Paul Golding, the BNP communications officer, claims that Simon Bennett, the BNP’s former webmaster and supporter of Butler’s challenge, must be collaborating with us because we posted the story of the vile hate mail campaign against him only hours after it appeared on Bennett’s website.

As evidence that’s pathetic. Of course we monitor the most interesting sites daily and Bennett’s is one of them, as is the vicious attack blog on which this nonsense appeared.
