Stop the National Front in Kent this Saturday

The National Front plans to hold a static demonstration in Chatham on Saturday 27 August and Kent anti-fascists intend to mount peaceful opposition.
Terry Blackham, the NF leader, has said that his supporters will meet in Strood before making their way to Chatham, where they intend to arrive at the railway station at 2.15pm. They will then move on to another as yet unspecified location in Chatham for a rally at 2.30pm. Police had banned the NF from holding a march.
Medway United will gather at Chatham railway station at 1.30pm in order to show the NF that the community in Kent wants no truck with racists and fascists. Two recent racist assaults in Maidstone show what happens when communities become racially divided.
The NF has been trying to recruit football hooligans for its march.
The NF apparently has a fallback plan to demonstrate in Margate if it cannot do what it wants in Chatham.
Blackham has also announced NF demonstrations in Dover, Ashford, Maidstone, Chatham and Margate, all on Saturday 3 September. The tiny fascist group does not have the numbers to march in more than one place, but it seems likely Blackham will apply for permission to march in all these towns and then choose one on the day.
Medway United has issued a press release which can be downloaded here.
