POLICE were called to New College after a right-wing extremist handing out leaflets was involved in a scuffle with students.

British National Party youth member, Mark Bullock, 21, was chased from the college, in Queens Drive, for handing out literature titled Freedom And Security Not Diversity And Danger.

Police are investigating after claims he was assaulted by students offended at the material he was circulating.

The incident happened at around 1pm yesterday. Director of Equality at New College, Alan Williams, called the police after Mr Bullock refused his request to leave the college grounds.

Mr Williams said: "He had been in the college and been asked to leave but deliberately stood in our front gate. I asked him to leave because his presence was likely to cause some kind of trouble.

"We celebrate diversity and we are a cooperative reflection of the local Swindon population and day-in-day-out for years and years we have had no racial tensions."

Mr Bullock, from Park North, said: "I was leafleting New College with leaflets about the recent terror attacks. I was asked to leave the main part of New College which I did and I was forced out on to the main street."

In March Mr Bullock and a second BNP member, Daniel Lake, crashed a multicultural diversity event at the college.
