DEFEATED Redbridge local election candidate Jason Douglas was caught up in a violent pitch invasion at a football match over the weekend.

Mr Douglas, 39, who played down past convictions for hooliganism to take part in the party's local election campaign, says he regrets getting caught on camera, yards from an ugly incident that followed Saturday's crunch clash between his beloved Leyton Orient and Oxford United.

He is pictured charging across the Oxford pitch, right behind a shaven-headed thug who is aiming a kick at a heavily-outnumbered Oxford fan.

Six men have been charged in connection with violence after the nail-biting match, which saw Oxford relegated to the Conference and the visiting east London side promoted to League One – but Mr Douglas was not among those arrested.
