Bullies

In his home patch of Morley, a small town outside Leeds, BNP Councillor Chris Beverley's sidekicks can't help dropping the mask of respectability they're instructed to wear.

Leafleters involved in all sorts of causes regularly hand out material in a precinct outside the local town hall.

A small group of anti-racists was giving out leaflets when two BNP pals of Beverley, described as "largely built men dressed in black", turned up and began taking photos. One of them said he was "Chris Beverley's minder".

Independent witnesses said the men were "threatening and aggressive" to the leafleters, who included women. The witnesses felt strongly enough to write to the Morley Observer expressing their disgust.

"Men who bully women have never been popular in Morley," one local independent councillor wrote to the paper.

Another writer stated: "Many people have started to believe that the BNP have distanced themselves from their 'bully boy' past but what I saw on Saturday, including the threats and bad language from BNP supporters, shows us that this is not the case."
