Political diary

THANKS to the British National Party for the press release drawing attention to the fact that Sedgefield councillor John Burton – Tony Blair's former election agent – has been suspended for a month for swearing.

And rightly so – there is no room for bad language in politics. And what's more we'll have no truck with those suggesting there is a whiff of hypocrisy in the BNP's disgust, given their response to a query from Wales on Sunday last year about claims leader Nick Griffin had named the pigs on his Powys farm Anne and Frank:

"It's *t***s like you trying to make something out of it. It's got nothing to do with the political scene today. F*** off."
