Truth is not in BNP manifesto
Letter from Tricia Sumner | Friday, 16 November 2007 Source: West Essex Guardian
DURING the recent Waltham Abbey Town Council by-election in Honey Lane ward, the level of lies, distortions and smears propagated by the extremist BNP in their literature hit a new low.
It now seems that the incredibly thin-skinned councillor Peter Turpin is continuing with this campaign of disinformation through the Guardian's letters pages.
For the record, the Labour Party did not mention councillor Turpin's lawbreaking in any literature we circulated in the ward. We did however inform the electorate that in other areas where BNP councillors have been elected crime has increased and that BNP councillors have been convicted of benefit fraud and have also failed to pay council house rent and council tax. We also drew voters' attention to the fact that leading BNP activists have been convicted of possessing home-made explosives.
Unfortunately, given the BNP's shoddy track record in the truth stakes, it would appear that they will continue to tell lies about us.
We shall, however, continue to tell the truth about the BNP.
Tricia Sumner, Labour Party by-election candidate, Waltham Abbey, Honey Lane ward
