As austerity bites spare a thought for the poor taxpayers of Bedfordshire who have had to shell out a small fortune to police the rabble that is known as the EDL.
The BBC have released a report revealing that the total cost of policing the EDL in the county has so far cost the taxpayer £2.5 million.
A Freedom of Information request has also revealed that the total cost of policing the EDL in the UK has hit the £10 million mark.
Beds Police recorded the highest cost of £2,447,172, followed by West Yorkshire Police at £1,911,088. This included the cost of officers’ overtime and borrowing officers from other forces.
