Golding steps down

Back in August I blogged that with problems mounting across the far-right, the only hope for Paul Golding would be to step down as leader of Britain First.

Events had taken hold that already meant would-be suitors viewed the party as increasingly toxic. Golding had held a number of discussions with minor players he wanted to front the party, making promises that Britain First could become a proper political party and not just some front for biblical hooligans. Golding has long suggested that Britian First becomes an English nationalist party.

The party’s ambitions to move into international waters over the past eighteen months have also collapsed. Humiliatingly.

Today, Golding has announced that he is stepping down from the party leadership position for six months. Not six months without salary, you understand. Apparently, according to himself, this is all for for family reasons- though he does face a potential six months in prison himself for his own activities. That and he is fighting a losing battle to turn the party around.

There has long be uncertainty about the relationship between Golding and his deputy Jayda Fransen. The two are mainly held together by their mutual fear and hatred of others. And love of money. Golding readily admits one million pounds have gone through party coffers. What’s all that gone on, then?

We wrote back in November 2015 how people were pushing for Fransen to replace Golding as leader. Indeed it was at their 2015 annual conference that Fransen somewhat stole the show from Golding. And she did the same earlier this month, when she was finally punished by the courts for her activities.

Two months ago a website appeared totally dedicated to Fransen. It has a lot of pictures of her wagging her finger at people.

Although Golding is being slightly disingenuous about the reasons he is stepping back, Fransen is unlikely to halt the party’s growing demise or particularly heal the rift between Golding and certain other underlings in the party.
