Golding: making chilling threats

The leader of the far-right group Britain First Paul Golding has been out of prison for little more than a week.

He was jailed just before Christmas for eight weeks after breaching a court order not to enter a mosque.

Already a volatile organisation, Golding stepped down from leading Britain First for a proposed six months just before sentencing last month after a mixture of internal quarrelling and personal business made his leadership difficult.

Now Golding has been released, he has returned to his favourite pastime of making a YouTube video addressing his followers. Despite his addresses normally being monotone and monosyllabic, this address by Golding (who appears to have reinstalled himself as leader) contains a series of not-so veiled threats that given the current climate should be viewed with great concern.

He begins by giving a chilling and possibly quite accurate account of life inside a violent Victorian prison but claims Golding, he was put in prison not by the current right- wing Tory government, but by a “corrupt left wing establishment” in the hope it would crush his resolve or “moderate” his future behaviour.

Just one of the backdrops used

Using a backdrop to an angry rant that included pictures of opposition leader Jeremy Corbyn and Prime Minister Teresa May, Golding threatens to “confront and oppose every traitor in this country.

“All the politicians, all the journalists who have spent their careers undermining our nation, you WILL succumb to this movement eventually” he says, again using Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and members of the Muslim community as a backdrop.

He continues that those who have upset him will “endure a day of reckoning” for what he describes as their “crimes against our nation.”

He describes a “day of justice” for those who he is planning to target in his new crusade, describing politicians and journalists as “leftists” who are “delusional in the extreme” he claims he is going to bring “every single last one of you [‘leftists’] to justice.

“I can promise you, from the very depths of my being, you will all meet your miserable ends at the hands of the Britain First movement. Every last one of you.”

This is without doubt, a chilling threat from an organisation that barely operates within the law already. An organisation that thrives on confrontation, fear and violence.

In the wake of the murder of an MP last year by a man who held similar views, these words must be taken seriously. Very seriously.
